Pesto Star Bread

An easy 3 ingredient recipe that transforms pizza dough and pesto into a beautiful star. A perfect recipe for the holidays.

Ingredients
  

  • 22 ounces (630g) pizza dough
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons (30 to 45g) vegan pesto
  • All purpose flour for dusting

Optional

  • ½ tablespoons (7g) olive oil, for brushing on top
  • 2 to 3 sprigs fresh parsley chopped for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C).
  • Separate the dough into 3 even pieces. Roll into a ball.
  • On a lightly floured surface roll the dough out to be as thin as you can get it without creating holes. Take a large bowl (about 9 inches) and place it on the dough. Use a sharp knife to cut a circle out. Repeat with the other two pieces of dough.
  • Lay one piece of dough down on a parchment lined baking sheet. Spread about 1 to 1 ½ tablespoons of the pesto over it. You don't need to have too much pesto on there. Then lay another piece of dough down and repeat with spreading the remaining pesto. Finally, lay the last piece of dough on top, do not spread anything on top.
  • Take a small bowl and place it in the center of the dough. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 16 pieces, long strand shooting off the center. If you need a visual for these steps watch the YouTube video.
  • To make the twisted points for the star you will need to take two pieces of dough. Twist them away from one another and then connect them at the top, pinching firmly. Again, if you need to see a visual watch the YouTube video.
  • Once all the points of the star have been made you can adjust and move things around as needed and to your preference.
  • Bake in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
  • When done if desired brush with oil and garnish with chopped parsley.
