Get ready to wow everyone you know with this tofu. I mean seriously just look at it. Even my mother who hates tofu saw this and had to take a bite. I think this is perfect for summer. It is easy to make and really delicious.
RECIPE VIDEO
To make my life easy I used store bought BBQ sauce from good old Trader Joe’s. There are plenty of vegan friendly barbecue sauces out there. I used the Korean one and it was incredibly delicious. So if you can get your hands on it, I suggest that one. If you don’t want to use tofu I would suggest cutting zucchini or squash into big rectangles and grilling them in the sauce!
Ingredients
½ block extra firm tofu
¼ cup barbecue sauce of choice
Non-stick spray
Skewers
Method
First begin by pressing the tofu. Check this post if you don’t know how to do that. Then I took the tofu and cut it into four big rectangles. If you would rather them be smaller just cut it into thinner rectangles. But I was going for a nice big, meaty piece of tofu. Then you just want to slide the skewers in. Using a silicone brush I coated all the sides of the tofu with BBQ sauce. I used a George Foreman grill but of course a real grill or even a grill pan would work great for this. I sprayed the grill with non-stick spray and placed my skewers on there. Cooking for about 5 minutes until I could see visible grill marks. Then I flipped it onto their sides and coated with more BBQ sauce. I repeated this about 3-4 times. Flipping and coating with more sauce. Until there were visible grill marks and the tofu was caramelized and juicy looking.
I paired it with some corn, string beans and roasted potatoes. I also think some vegan mac and cheese would be delicious with this.
