Loaded Kimchi Fries

These loaded kimchi fries are covered in a vegan cheese sauce, topped with kimchi, sriracha vegan mayo and finished off with green onion and sesame seeds. Your hands are gonna get a little messy with this one, so grab a fork and a napkin!

These fries have a lot of flavor going on. They really are a whole meal, but trust me they are so good. I know kimchi and a cheese sauce together may seem like a weird pairing, I was a bit skeptical when I brainstormed the idea…but they work so well together. Combined with a little bit of sweet and spiciness from the sriracha mayo it is amazing.

I prefer to use store-bought fries for this as it is much easier and less stressful than making your own homemade french fries. There are so many styles to choose from and different seasonings to play around with, it makes it fun. So just get whatever fries you like! You can also always roasted large wedges of potatoes. Be sure to check your kimchi and make sure it is vegan. Most kimchi contains shrimp paste and fish, so it is very important to check your kimchi. I prefer this one from the brand Mother in Law’s.

I like to serve these in a basket with some parchment paper, just to give it a more fun, pubby restaurant feel! It makes me feel like I eating out instead of at home in my sweatpants. These are a great snack or meal. There are a lot of flavors with the tangy and salty flavor of the kimchi, the salty and creaminess of the cheese sauce and the little bit of sweetness from the sriracha mayo!

3/4 bag french fries (around 20 ounces [550g])
1/2 block vegan cheddar cheese, cubed (3.5 ounces [100g])
1/2 cup (120ml) nondairy milk, unflavored and unsweetened
3 tablespoons veganaise
3 teaspoons sriracha, or to taste
1/2 cup (110g) kimchi, chopped
2 to 3 green onions, chopped
Black sesame seeds, for garnish


  1. Prepare french fries according to package instructions.
  2. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan melt the vegan cheddar cheese and nondairy milk together over low heat. Stir frequently to prevent any clumping. If you feel the sauce is too thick then add more nondairy milk to help thin it out.
  3. In a small bowl whisk the vegan mayo and sriracha until smooth and well incorporated.
  4. When the french fries are done place them on a serving plate of choice. Top with the vegan cheese sauce, kimchi, sriracha mayo, green onion, and sesame seeds.
