making homemade vegan ice cream has never been easier! It requires no ice cream machine. made from only 4 ingredients and it is one of the best vegan vanilla ice creams i have ever had!
There are so many ways to make homemade vegan ice cream. One day I would love to get an ice cream machine but for now this is the most simple and easiest way. You only need 4 ingredients, a stand mixer, and a freezer. The worst part is waiting 24 hours for it to freeze.
the ingredients
- Sweetened Condensed Oat or Coconut Milk: I like to use the one from Nature’s Charm, I have made this recipe with both the coconut and oat milk. I actually did not find the coconut to give any coconut flavor, just adds sweetness and a richness.
- Oat Whipping Cream: Again, I like to use the one from Nature’s Charm. This adds the creaminess factor to our vegan ice cream. I do think you should be able to use any non-dairy whipping cream.
- Vanilla Extract: make sure this is high quality vanilla extract because it is what is giving flavor. If you want to make vanilla bean you can use vanilla bean powder.
- Salt: this will just add some balance to our ice cream. It also helps for the freezing process.
how to make vegan ice cream
In order to make this vegan ice cream you will only need to add the ingredients into a stand mixer or you can do this with a hand mixer as well. Just whip up the oat whipping cream first, then you will add in the non-dairy condensed milk, vanilla extract, and salt. Whip it up again and then pour it into a loaf pan or anything container you want that would be big enough! Place it in the freezer overnight and then you are done!
flavor variations
While a really good simple vanilla cannot be beat in my mind there are of course tons of ways to jazz this up!
- Strawberry: if you want to add in some strawberry flavor you can cook up some fresh strawberries and blend them up. Add it into the base when you are mixing it all together and then you can even throw in some chopped fresh strawberries,
- Cookies & Cream: you can carefully fold in some chopped up Oreo cookies after mixing the vanilla base together.
- Chocolate: just add in 3 tablespoons of melted vegan chocolate chips during the mixing process.
- Cookie Dough: if you get store-bought vegan cookie dough that is edible like Sweet Lorens, you can just roll up little pieces and fold it it into the mixed up vanilla base.
