whether you are spending Valentine’s day with friends, a significant other, or just at home by yourself this Love Potion (Valentine’s Day Mocktail) is just what you need. only a few ingredients and you will have a yummy drink!
the inspiration
As soon as I got my house cleared from the holidays, Valentine’s Day was in my head. While, I am not the biggest fan of Valentine’s Day I know there are a lot of people who love it and I of course always want to help you out. So, while there will be some food recipes coming too I was excited to do a drink.
For Halloween a few years ago I did a really fun themed drink and I wanted to recreate a similar vibe with Valentine’s Day. Something really easy to make but delicious. So, here we are with a Love Potion (Valentine’s Day Mocktail).
the ingredients
- Black Cherry Juice: used to add color and flavor to the mocktail.
- Lemonade: used as the main base of the mocktail.
- Grapefruit Juice: adds extra flavor and a bit of tang. You can sub it for orange juice if you like or leave it out completely if it affects a medication or your health/
- Agave or Maple Syrup: adds a bit of extra sweetness.
- Seltzer: adds fizziness.
- Strawberries: cut these into hearts to make a cute garnish.
how to make the love potion (valentine’s day mocktail)
This drink is so easy to make. Just grab a jar or a cocktail shaker if you have one. Then, add in the black cherry juice, lemonade, grapefruit juice, and agave. You can then put a lid on and shake it or use a mini frother.
I like to use a mini frother to mix it because it adds air into the drink. So, you will see it creates some nice bubbles on top. However, that is totally optional.
Now, you have the main part of the drink! Easy, peasy done.
how to make the strawberry hearts
Making strawberry hearts is so easy. There are a few ways to do it!
- My preferred way is to take a strawberry and cut it in half. Then use a small heart shaped cookie cutter and cut out a heart. It doesn’t need to be perfect. You just need to get the indent V on top and general shape it will look cute.
- The other way to do it is after you cut the strawberry in half you can use a knife to make a V on top to make a heart shape.
To stick it on top as a garnish you can either use two toothpicks to make it long enough to span the cut or use a very long toothpick. The long heart toothpicks are so cute and add an extra fun element to the drink.
how to turn this into a cocktail
Personally, I just don’t drink much these days so I am always opting for mocktails. However, it is so easy to turn a mocktail into a cocktail!
First, you can always add vodka. While it is my least favorite liquor it is great for turning any mocktail into a cocktail. You can use a fun flavor here like raspberry or orange to enhance the drink even more.
Second, you can add in tequila. This is my preferred liquor and I think it would taste delicious in here. I would probably use a silver tequila but if you wanted to use a gold that may be nice as well.
Finally, this one is great, especially if you are celebrating with Galentine’s Day, use a sparkling prosecco or moscato. You can do this in place of the seltzer or in addition to. This will add in fun bubbles and flavor.
finishing the love potion (valentine’s day mocktail)
Once you have mixed your juices up and made your strawberry hearts you are just about there. Take some fun heart glasses (or any glasses) and fill it halfway with the juice mixture. Then, finish it off with seltzer. Add in a few ice cubes, garnish with the strawberry hearts and that’s it!
If you want to add in some even more extra detail you can use some edible glitter or edible flowers as a garnish. There are so many fun and cute ways to make this Love Potion feel extra romantic and special.

- Can I prep this ahead of time? You can make the strawberry hearts and mix all the juices together, then store in the fridge. Then, when you want to serve just finish off the drink.
