if you are a child of the 90s like me, then you know cereal was pushed hard on us. one of my favorites was cinnamon toast crunch. it has now been years since i’ve had so i figured why not make some homemade cinnamon toast crunch!
this recipe is only a few ingredients and is so delicious. you only need all purpose flour, vegan butter, vanilla extract, spray oil, and then you can either use cinnamon and sugar or cinnamon toast has come out with a cinnadust! super simple and you may already have all the ingredients. these homemade cinnamon toast crunch aren’t 100 percent like the cinnamon toast crunch we ate growing up BUT they are very fun.
The Ingredients
- All Purpose Flour: the base of our homemade cinnamon toast crunch. If you are gluten free you can use gluten free all purpose flour.
- Vegan Butter: this helps to turn our flour into a dough.
- Vanilla Extract: adds a vanilla flavor.
- Cold Water: helps to bring the dough together.
- Cinnamon Sugar or Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cinnadust: you can either make your own homemade cinnamon sugar using organic sugar and ground cinnamon or you can use the Cinnadust.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch Making Tips
This recipe isn’t hard to make at all but there are a few tips to make things go even easier. Make sure your vegan butter and water are very cold. Helps to make the dough come together better. The thinner you can make the dough when rolling the better but if you make it too thin it will be hard to pick it up. If you like things very sweet and want these to be sweet, you may want to add sugar into your dough. I personally don’t like things overly sweet so I decided not to as the generous coatings of Cinnadust were good for me. Also, as always when it comes to baking anything knowing your oven is so important!
How To Enjoy Homemade Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Of course this is supposed to be a cereal so enjoy it with some non-dairy milk and then you can slurp up the yummy cinnamon milk after. You can of course snack on these all on their own. Add them on top of vegan ice cream, vegan yogurt bowls, really you can do anything you want with them.

Homemade Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Equipment
Ingredients
- 2 cups (240g) all purpose flour
- 1 cup (224g) vegan butter, cold and cubed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) cold water
- ½ cup (100g) organic sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- Spray oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (176°C).
- In a food processor add the flour, vegan butter, water, vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon sugar or cinnadust. Pulse in 30 seconds to start to combine everything. Scrape down the sides as necessary until it forms a dough.
- Knead with your hands into a ball if you need to add in more flour that is okay. Shape into a ball and chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.
- I like to cut the dough in half and work with one half a time. Keep the one half in the fridge. Place the piece of dough between 2 pieces of parchment paper or my preferred way is a silicone baking mat on the bottom and parchment paper over top. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to be about ¼ inch thick. Roll it out into a large rectangle. You can use a knife to cut off uneven ends to make it into an even line. Lightly spray with spray oil and then generously sprinkle with Cinnadust or cinnamon sugar.
- Use a pizza cutter or a knife to make even rows and columns to make squares. You can make these as big or small as you desire. I would say to make them at least 1 inch by 1 inch squares. Place them on a lined baking sheet or a good non-stick baking sheet. If you need help getting the pieces up use a knife to slide underneath them. Repeat the process with the scraps of dough and remaining dough half.
- Once they are all made bake in the oven for 12 minutes or until golden and crispy.
- Allow them to cool for 10 minutes before eating as they will harden. Add more spray oil and sprinkle with more cinnamon sugar or Cinnadust so they are coated very well.
- Enjoy immediately on their own or with a bowl of non-dairy milk. Don’t forget to slurp up the leftover cinnamony-milk.

Notes
- To make the cinnamon sugar just combine the ground cinnamon and sugar in a bowl. I used the Cinnadust or you can just make your own cinnamon sugar according to ingredients.
- If you want the cinnamon toast crunch to be very sweet you can add an extra 3 tablespoons of sugar into your dough.
