one of my current favorite snacks are crispy edamame! these edamame are so fun to make in the air fryer and we are going to make 3 different flavors. they are a great source of plant protein.
I have protein goals I try to hit everyday and something that has been helpful with that are edamame! Edamame are just soy beans and they are so awesome. While I do actually love just edamame plain all on their own, these crispy air fried edamame are so delicious and fun for snacking. I have currently been obsessed with The Only Bean and they are really great but I wanted to try to make them on my own at home!
the ingredients
- Cooked Shelled Edamame: for this recipe you need already cooked edamame. You can also use frozen and microwave them. Either way you need some edamame that is ready to go. Most edamame is already salted which is great because it makes the salt flavor super easy to make since there is no work to be done!
- Sriracha: this is just to add flavor to the edamame.
- Buffalo Sauce: again this is to add flavor to the edamame.
what are edamame?
If you don’t know what edamame are they are just soybeans! It is a Japanese dish that is made with young soybeans. In restaurants they typically come served in the pods but you can get shelled edamame at the food store. You can either use frozen edamame or fresh. I find the fresh edamame in my local food stores by the tofu. The brand they have by me is called Kiyo Foods, but it doesn’t matter you can get any soybeans your store has! Edamame are really amazing because they are super high in protein so they make a great little snack.
how to make the crispy air fried edamame
To make these edamame is so easy. All you need to do is air fry them! If you are making the flavors you will add 2 tablespoons of the sauce to the edamame, toss the around to coat, and then air fry. You only need to air fry these for 17 minutes at 400°F and that is it. You will have fun and yummy edamame. It really is so simple.
how to bake these
So, I must preface this by saying the first few times I did try to bake the edamame and honestly didn’t love the result. However, I know not everyone has an air fryer so if you want to bake these you can just be aware they don’t get as crispy. To bake you can bake them at 450°F for 20 to 30 minutes depending on your oven.
