this delicious sugar cookie dip is so easy to make and the perfect way to spread holiday cheer!
the inspiration
Sugar cookie dip is one of those recipes I have seen floating around the internet for years. In 2021 I shared a recipe for vegan cannoli dip that I loved. So, I thought that doing a sugar cookie dip would be just as delicious.
You can think of this recipe like a holiday dunkaroos! It is so fun to pair with cookies, pretzels, fruit, or anything else you want to dip in there. The recipe comes together in just a few minutes and people will love it.
the ingredients
- Organic Powdered Sugar: this will add sweetness to our sugar cookie dip. If you live in the US make sure you use organic to ensure it is vegan friendly.
- Vegan Butter: this helps to creates the base consistency for our dip. I used a salted vegan butter.
- Vegan Cream Cheese: this is also creamed together with the vegan butter to create the base of our dip.
- Sugar Cookie or Cookie Butter Coffee Creamer: this time of year there are a variety of non-dairy sugar cookie creamers. This will add in the sugar cookie flavor. I actually used the Califia Farms Cookie Butter creamer which is delicious.
- Vanilla Extract: adds in vanilla flavor.
- Sprinkles: adds a little crunch and something fun to the sugar cookie dip.
how to make the sugar cookie dip
You are going to love how easy it is make this sugar cookie dip. You can either do it with a stand mixer or a hand mixer. If you want to do it by hand with a whisk it is going to require a bit of elbow grease.
First, you will cream together the vegan butter and vegan cream cheese. Whip it together until it gets very light and fluffy. Then, you will add in the powdered sugar, cookie creamer, and vanilla extract.
You will then mix that up again. I like to put it on a higher speed so all the ingredients can get mixed together well. After it is all combined that is it! You have done most of the hard work, super easy right?!
chilling sugar cookie dip
You want to chill the sugar cookie dip for at least a half hour. This allows for the dip to thicken. Since we blended and mixed up the vegan butter and vegan cream cheese it is also warms it up, which can thin it.
The longer you chill the sugar cookie dip the more it will thicken. This is a great recipe to make in advance as well because it will last in the fridge up to 2 days in advance.
vegan sprinkles
Did you know that not all sprinkles are vegan friendly? Unfortunately, sprinkles can have a few ingredients that don’t make them suitable for vegans.
First, is an ingredient called carmine. This is what gives it a red hue to ingredients. However, carmine comes from bugs therefore not making it suitable for vegans.
The second ingredient is called confectioners glaze. This is a resin secreted by a bug, which if we are being totally honest also sounds absolutely disgusting. So, we want to make sure we are using vegan friendly sprinkles!
If you want to find them in stores look in places like Whole Foods, Sprouts, Kroger, etc. The Watkins brand like I used is great. You can also order them online, Sweetapolita is my favorite for that! Finally, you can also make your own my friend Jessica has a great recipe.
let’s add in the sprinkles!
After the sugar cookie dip has chilled I like to use a whisk to whip it up one more time. It adds a nice little bit of extra texture and air back into the dip.
Now, you will add in the sprinkles. I think you should measure these with your heart but you want to add enough so that there are sprinkles throughout. You will fold them in and then I like to add a few more on top. It just looks so pretty.
Also, you can use any vegan friendly sprinkles. They of course don’t need to be Christmas themed if you don’t want them to be. Feel free to use any sprinkles you want.
