butternut squash puree is extremely easy to make, you only need 1 ingredient! perfect for using in soup, pastas, baked goods, and more.

the inspiration
I am always the first to tell you I do not like pumpkin. In my opinion pumpkin puree is usually very tasteless and not my favorite thing. However, I do very much enjoy butternut squash flavored things.
You can actually very easily buy butternut squash puree in a can. However, if you can’t find it or just want to make it yourself it is so easy to make.
All you need is a butternut squash and some water! It is perfect to make and have on hand but you can freeze it too.

the ingredients
- Butternut Squash: all you need for this recipe is a butternut squash! You can pick any size of one that you like. Of course the bigger one you pick the more puree you will have.
- Water: you will need water to help the food processor but only about ½ cup (120ml).
how to prep and make the butternut squash puree

- Peel the butternut squash.

- Depending on the the shape of your butternut squash, you may be better off cutting it into sections. If yours looks like mine you can cut it into thirds.

- Cut the bulb part in half to reveal the seeds. Then, scoop them out. You can save them and roast them if you like.

- Then, cut the butternut squash into medium sized cubes.

- Steam the butternut squash about 30 minutes over a medium heat.

- The butternut squash needs to be fork tender before removing. If it is not soft enough, steam for more time.

- Scoop into a food processor and pour in ½ cup of water.

- Process until smooth.

- Store in a container in the fridge.
why you’ll love this butternut squash puree
This butternut squash puree is so amazing because it is only 1 ingredient. A lot of other recipes online used olive oil, cream, or other dairy products to make the puree. Some recipes I saw also added in things like spices or butter, which is just unnecessary.
Also, instead of having to turn on the oven, steaming makes it so much easier. I also love butternut squash compared to a pumpkin because it is much easier to cut. The knife goes through it much more quickly. The flavor is also much better since butternut squash is sweeter.
It becomes very soft when steaming so it is very easy for the food processor to blend up into a beautiful puree.
