this watermelon cherry refresher is sweet and full of electrolytes! the perfect way to hydrate on a hot day.

the inspiration
There’s a popular trend online called “Nature’s Gatorade.” It is a healthier alternative to traditional sports drinks. It’s made with natural, wholesome ingredients, contains little to no added sugar, and is free from artificial dyes.
I was really excited to try making my own flavors because it sounded so refreshing and tasty. While a lot of people were making a blueberry version that looked amazing, I had another plan in mind. I couldn’t stop thinking about cherries and watermelon.
So, I knew I had to combine them to make an incredible drink. This watermelon cherry refresher truly is perfect for these hot summer days coming up.

the ingredients
- Coconut Water: coconut water is a great source of natural electrolytes (the thing Gatorade replenishes). It is a good source of potassium, manganese, and sodium. Making it a great base for replenishing. Feel free to use any brand you like.
- Watermelon: watermelon is of course absolutely delicious but is also so hydrating because it is mostly water! It also has great electrolytes like potassium as well.
- Frozen Cherries: I used frozen cherries for this recipe because they are already pitted so it makes it very easy to blend them up. Cherries are packed with antioxidants they can also help contribute with muscle recovery!
- Himalayan Pink Sea Salt: if you have noticed when you drink Gatorade it has a bit of saltiness to it. That is because the salt helps to put electrolytes back into our body as well. You want to use a Himalayan pink sea salt as it contains the minerals we need, table salt will not work here.
- Mint: I just used this as an optional garnish.

making the watermelon cherry refresher
To make this drink is so easy! All you need is a blender and a sieve. Start by adding all the ingredients into your blender. You will want to thaw the cherries for about 15 to 20 minutes beforehand.
Then, blend the drink for a minute until everything is broken down. I personally like to use a high speed blender to ensure it can handle the ingredients.
Once the drink is all blended up it will be time to strain. However, if you don’t mind there being texture you can skip straining it if you like as well.

straining the watermelon cherry refresher
To strain the drink, I find that using a fine-mesh sieve works best. The small holes do a great job of catching any pulp.
Place the sieve over a measuring cup, small pitcher, or bowl. Personally, I prefer a measuring cup because it makes pouring into a glass much easier. Then, carefully pour the drink through the sieve.
You may need to use a spoon to gently stir the pulp around, which helps the liquid pass through more easily. I also like to press the spoon down on the pulp to squeeze out every bit of juice.

serving the watermelon cherry refresher
This recipe makes about 2 cups of the drink, so I consider it 2 servings (1 cup per serving). I like to use a large glass filled with plenty of ice to make the watermelon cherry refresher extra cold.
Simply pour the drink over the ice, and top it with a few fresh mint leaves. If you want to get a little fancy you can always add in some of the frozen cherries too.
I absolutely love the color of this drink and the taste is incredible. It is so perfect for summer.

why you’ll love this drink
There are so many things to love about this watermelon cherry refresher! From the flavor of the drink, to how easy it is to make it, and all the benefits you are getting it is perfect!
The combination of the watermelon and cherry is so incredible. It is not overly sweet as well which I do enjoy. It is the perfect amount of sweetness you would want in this type of drink!
